Directhitt offers environmental remediation services including horizontal drilling and well boring. Environmental remediation is a widely used technique throughout Europe and America but is relatively unheard of in Australia. Soil remediation achieved through horizontally drilled wells is an innovative technique suitable for a diverse range of environmentally sensitive projects. Read on to find out more or contact our team today about your environmental remediation project.
The soil remediation technique of horizontally drilled wells is beneficial to property owners, environmental consultants and environmental clean-up contractors for a variety of reasons.
Horizontal drilling permits flexible access to contaminated underground sites without significant disturbance to buildings, storage tanks, landfill, bodies of water, and other surface or subsurface features. Unlike vertical drilling, horizontal well installation is a low impact construction method that has a far greater reach and does not interfere with an affected property's normal use.
Our horizontal drilling equipment is relatively compact and can be placed away from high traffic areas. The wells created are surface-launched which means they do not require the excavation of large pits or trenches. Horizontal drills are also directionally steered, so the path of a bore can be precisely controlled for maximum system productivity.
Because underground contamination often spreads horizontally rather than vertically, a single horizontal well can often reach more of a contaminated zone than several vertical wells and provide a more efficient delivery/recovery medium for a variety of remediation methods. Horizontal drilling also helps reduce the risk of spreading contamination to water tables below affected areas.
Once the pilot bore is complete the drill string is withdrawn, and a second drill string with a special quick release anchor bit is sent down the hole. When it reaches the bottom, a continuous PVC mesh screen is inserted inside, down to the anchor bit. The drill string is then withdrawn, leaving only the anchor and the PVC mesh in place, allowing contaminants to be treated or extracted. Various techniques include:
