Open Cut Trenching and Tunnelling | Australia Wide

Directhitt specialises in service installations through open cut and trenching methods Australia wide, including excavation, cable ploughing, shoring, vacuum excavation, tunnelling and HDD. If you are looking for an experienced contractor to dig trenches, lay and connect pipe for your water, sewer, gas, electric or communications projects, talk to our team today. We also assist with your pipe transportation, dewatering or shoring needs. Ask us about your pipe installation requirements today and we will provide you with an obligation free quote.

To install the product pipes, the contractor creates a trench or hole to a specific depth and width (diameter) for the pipe to be placed in, bored in, jacked in, pulled in, or ploughed in. Before any of the above can take place, existing services need to be located, and most clients and councils prefer a non-destructive method.

The non-destructive digging (NDD) method uses a vacuum truck to create ‘potholes’ in the earth using pressurised air and water. As the name suggests, NDD is non-destructive and requires less support from workers. We have a range of vacuum trucks that are suitable for this type of application.

For large-scale projects, open cut trenching is sometimes the preferred method of digging trenches for pipe installation. We carry several excavators which enable us to also conduct conventional open cut trenching when required.

Our excavator hire includes:

Pipe Laying Methods

Pipe laying is the term used to describe the installation of pipes into the ground, be it for water, gas, sewer, telecommunications, fuel etc. The main methods are:

•    Open cut using excavators

•    Trenching using a train or bucket wheel trencher

•    Vacuum excavation

•    Micro-tunnelling

•    Pipe jacking

•    Pipe ramming

•    Auger boring

•    HDD

Pipe Jacking, Micro-tunnelling, Auger Boring and Pipe Ramming

Pipe jacking, micro-tunnelling, auger boring and pipe ramming, are alternative pipe laying methods that Directhitt can provide. All of these systems use hydraulic gaps to advance the pipe or casing through the bore while the bore is being cut to the required diameter, except for pipe ramming, which uses a large percussive air hammer to ram the casing pipe through the ground which is then cleaned out using air and water under pressure.

We create sustainable and cost-effective drilling solutions for every project.

Pipe Transportation and Slurry Removal

Our team can provide pipe transportation services with several pipe reelers available for the transportation of continuous pipe as well as several semi-trailer and side-lifters for rigid pipe. We also carry specifically designed vacuum trucks to completely remove all mud and slurries from the worksite.
